Can anyone tell me if i can simply link my main computer to my laptop, by a usb aa lead,without any other hardware, to tranfer files over,my laptop does not have a cd rom drive.I have seen something avaliable that is a lead but has something inbetween it,and also has drivers,is this needed or do i already have the software in my xp,and the lead alone will surfice.

You need the bridge cable with the extra block in the middle and drivers for anything less than Windows XP.

A USB A-A cable NOT work and CANNOT be made to work.

A Bridge cable works by twisting the cables in the midell so they swap over.

eg...

Normal A-A USB Cable

1 ---- 1

2 ---- 2


Bridge USB Cable

1 ---- 2

2 ---- 1

The Maplin PC-Linq cable works with Win 95, 98, ME; and also 2K & XP with updated drivers.

BUT the laptop has no CD drive which might pose a problem as driver often come on CD!!

When I used my SmartLinq cable I got the latest drivers from click here
