USB hard drive issues

hey, I have an lg hxd2 external hard drive and a while ago it stopped being recognised by my computer so I checked it on other computers and still it wasn't recognised. there were no unusual sounds and the led was lit and the hard drive spinning. since it takes 2 usb's to power it i presumed one of the usb's was damaged so i bought a new dual power cable and now all i get from the hard drive is the led light, no movement from the platter at all but switching to my old cable, the hard drive still spins.

anyone have any ideas as to why this is and if there is a solution to this problem?

Refresh USB Ports
Use Drive clean up to remove USB device drive info from the registry
or
In device manager Uninstall EVERYTHING under the heading USB,
reboot the PC let XP find and install new hardware.
Your equipment should now be recognised.
