USB generic drivers

Hi everyone,

I have recently installed a PCI to USB card which I had laying around from a 3-4yr old machine.
I don`t know the make, it shows yellow ? in device manager "driver not installed"

Using XP on P4, MSI mobo, I do not have the driver on HD CD or floppy. Can anyone suggest a generic driver that may be worth trying or a means of identifying the card.

Uninstall the card in Device Manager, Reboot and Windows XP should Find New Hardware and install the drivers from its drivers database.

I presume it's a card that provides extra USB sockets?

SIW may ID it for you even without drivers installed.

Have used SIW, I find it very good, looking at PCI
shows lots of devices, does not say whether working or not.

Have 4 usb ports on back of mobo.(probably 1.1 but working)
2 on front of case USB2 I think.
Another one on the back at the bottom on a thing that the manual describes as an optional bracket (not working}
Ther are 4 on the PCI card at the back and one on the inside of the case.
Get 2 yellow ?s in dev man for USB controllers.
What I am actually trying to do is establish What is What and get anything that can work operational

A bit long winded there, sorry about that just trying to explain clearly.

I have plugged a scanner and a printer into the USB card that shows in Device Manager as having no drivers installed, they both work fine, can anyone explain please.

Are there any identifying marks on the card that might help you determine what it is?

Seems to be working ok though.

  Ray5776 12:50 07 Mar 2006

I have examined the card for some kind of clue, only thing on it is the serial number.
Looking at the SIW info it looks to me that it is the
Via Technologies 6202. When I try to re-install the driver it asks for Disk with EHCI on it. It seems to me that it is working as USB1 and is looking for the driver to enable USB2.
Any comments please.

In Device Manager, under USB Controllers, are the words Via version Rev 5 or later and Enhanced included (Enhanced is listed in your posting above)?

If so then the USB2 devices should work as expected; Windows XP includes these drivers.

Stuartli,
under USB controllers there are 2 lines "VIA rev 5 or later etc" but not enhanced.
(several other lines, also not enhanced)

surfmonkey,
thanks for the link I have tried there before and now again, I can find a driver but not for XP.
