usb flash drive not working in hub ...

  Kate B 11:54 14 Nov 2003

My shiny new USB flash drive isn't working in the USB ports on my keyboard, but other USB devices do work there. However, it works fine when plugged into the USB ports on the case ... any ideas? This is in Windows 2000 on a PC over which I have administrator rights

thanks all

Some devices simply don't like hubs.

Also as it is an unpowered hub (also known as "Bus Powered") on the keyboard it might not be getting enough power. The built in USB ports have plenty of power.

thanks for the suggestion, Jester2K II - but it works fine in my keyboard hub at home!

If you are using a hub such as a PCI enhanced USB then use the powerpack it comes with as it will struggle with peripherals that have no power themselves. A USB printer is fine as it uses own power. Using a Mouse AND a Flash drive at the same time in the same hub may have probs. I fixed by plugging in!
