i had problems with computer so i reformated
and unpluged 500gb, after format i pluged 500gb
only to show it was reading 4.022gb i tried
formating the 500gb drive to various formats but to no avail, is it possible to regain the 500gb space

If you are using XP. Plug the Drive in, is it recognized? if it is right click "My Computer\Manage\Disc Management" does the drive show there and does it say free space?

You will not regain 500 Gb. I have a Maxtor external USB 500 Gb drive. It actually has 500 GB bytes but shows up on my system as 465 Gb. It is down to how it is measured. Someone better than me will explain why.

As above the size it shows is correct for a 500Gb drive Right click on it the either set as Active and Format it there or just try Format
