USB driver problem

  MICKY BOY 19:42 11 Mar 2009

Hi All,

Installed DriverMax on my desktop running XP.
Installed the various driver updates DriverMax indicated was needed. (Big mistake)
Installed updated drivers
VIA Tech CPU to PCI Bridge.
VIA Rev 5 or later USB.
VIA CPU to AGP Controller
VIA Bus Master IDE Controller.
TE100-PCBUSR 32 Bit Card bus PC Card.
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller.

Checked computer was OK between each installation.
However I find all of a sudden my USB ports are not being recognised by windows, and will not work, have tried to do system restore, will not let me.
How can I uninstall all the new drivers and install the old ones.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Uninstall everything under usb headings in device manager and reboot.XP will reinstall the generic drivers...this is all it needs.

Thank you for your advice did what you said, computer found various USB drivers OK,
Have found out that my 1.1 USB ports at the front of my computer are recognized when I put USB scanner etc, but the 2.0 USB PCI cards ports that have been installed later in the computers life are not working, the lights are not on. Is it possible that a internal fuse has blown. The USB 2.0 ports normally run my external HD and scanner.

Have found the Belkin high speed USB PCI card fitted about a year ago seems to be the only USB ports not being recognized. how can I check this out.

Check in the bios that usb2 is enabled
The Belkin card probably needs the drivers reinstalling

Go back to Device manager, Click on the USB that you updated click on Drivers then click RollBack Driver.

If that does not work run restore to before DriveMAX

Thank you for your advice, could you explain how to check in the Bios,
how do I reinstall the Belkin drivers as none come with the card.

Tried to roll back, says no available driver have been saved.
Tried to restore to various days before, still will not let me.

Might be worth swapping the card to another PCI slot to see if it will re-detect and install.
