USB Device Not Recognized

Basically I get an error message saying
"USB Device Not Regonized".

Attached to the PC is only a Globespan ADSL Modem which device manager states that is working perfectly.

I have
booted machine in SAFE mode and uninstalled
Standard Open PCI to USB Host Controller
Standard Enhanced USB Host Controller
Root Hubs and finally the
Universal Serial Bus Controller.

I removed all USB devices (ie Modem), then rebooted the PC.

XP loaded and re-installed
Standard Open PCI to USB Host Controller
Standard Enhanced USB Host Controller
Universal Serial Bus Controller.

In addition it also installed an Unknown Device, which wasn't connected and informs me every 15-30 secs that the the unknown device that isn't connected is not working properly.......

Can someone please advise.

perhaps this is a bit over my head but you havn't said that you have installed the modem driver.have you done this?

Hi Mrwoowoo,

No, the USB modem at that time was not installed, as I had removed all USB devices and installations. So, when I rebooted the machine, I did not have a single USB device connected and the reboot would be 'clean' of USB and it still did install the unkown device that wasn't connected and wasn't working.
