i have a usb 2 printer with a usb 2 cable i am running win xp sp 2 i have tried uninstaling and reinstaling drivers for printer but to no avail please could you help

You may have a USB 2 printer but do you have USB 2 ports. The first USB 2 item I bought prompted a message from my PC informing me that I had a USB 2 component plugged into a USB 1 port and that whilst the item would work it would not be as fast as it could be.

usb 1 is faster enough for printers, the slow part is printing, not the data transmission

I have a scandisk reader connected via USB hub to DL photos. Takes an age and always get 'this device can run faster' masg. Am running XP SP2 on 2yr old m/c with USB 1.1 ports.
To upgrade to USB 2 what do I need to do please? Trawled the forum but advice unclear other than applying the SP1 patch which I assume I already have - being on SP2.

Your thoughts much appreciated.

If your motherboard does not support usb2, then the only way to go is to install a usb2 pci card in the computer.

As TomJerry says, Printers can go no faster than their own print speed. USB2 will make no difference. If you want USB2 slots do as jimv7 says. Buy a pci card. About £20.00. Just slot it in and reboot. In Device Manager you should then have a listing for Enhanced PCI to USB.

Cheers guys. I'll do that.
