Upgrading XP OEM

I have been looking on Microsoft's site, but cannot see the answer, so ...

I have an OEM installation of XP Home. If I wanted to upgrade to a retail version of XP can I purchase the upgrade, or do I need the full version?

Ta!

I can`t see what difference it will make - what do you want to achieve?

The only real difference between OEM and retail versions is the amount of money that goes into Microsoft's coffers.

Capability and performance are exactly th same for both.

No point so far as I can see if you have a legit oem version

Only thing is If you have a XP CD you can run repair, and SFC /SCANNOW etc. but cannot unless the XP setup files are on your comp.

Correct Woodchip! So just to be on the safe side click here and download the free Belarc Advisor. Install and run it on your computer and print it out. It will give you details about your setup including the CD Keys for the operating system. Then if you run into trouble you could use a friends XP setup discs with your legitimate CD Key to do all the necessary.
