Upgrading W2000

Recently, I aquired a second-hand laptop, about four years old, the only name of which I can see is "notino 2200". It has Windows 2000 Professional already installed. I want to get Windows 2000 off and install Windows XP. I put in a upgrade to XP disc to see if it worked but it was rejected saying that it couldn't do the upgrade, if an upgrade is what it is. I can see no way of achieving this without using a "scrubber" to get rid of everything and then installing the XP. To do this, however, I would somehow have to Fdisk it and then reformat it. On my old machine I would use a boot disk to do both but I can't on a laptop as you cannot insert a floppy disc. Can anyone suggest a way of doing this, please?

Remove the drive and place in a caddy or use an USB adaptor cable and format the drive.
This will now be ready for a clean install.

Or Killdisk cd bootable, just burn the iso using something like Nero or Imgburn click here scroll down to the cd option.
