i only have my pc about six months.this is my first pc and i am looking to upgrade.system specs are :win xp/1.8gig p4 celeron(GA_8SIML mobo)512ddr/hercules radeon 9000 128mb(non pro/40 gig hd.dir x9 cat 3.0 drivers/250watt psu.i understand this system is not the best for gaming but would like to know your thoughts on how i would go about upgrading.my bios is not exactly tweak friendly so do i need to start with a new mobo?when i bought my pc it came with onboard sis650 graphics and 256ddr.i have already upgraded to the above.whats my next step?thanks very much.

the celeron is the worst part of the system but not sure if the mobo will take a full pentium. It might be better to sell that system and go for a complete new one with all the bells and whistles. For gaming you should get a mobo without built in video, sound or other non essential bits.

Your motherboard will take P4 upgrade without problem so that should be your first steps. If you haven't already done so have a look at the Gigabyte homesite as this shows the spec for your board.

If you've added a graphics card amd memory and are now upgrading the processor you should consider a new PSU. At 250W you could have problems.
