Upgrading to DVD Writer

I have a PC about 4 yrs old with an internal CD writer (8-8-32) and an internal DVD player. I am thinking of buying a DVD read/writer.

Should I install itin the "old" CD player/writer's slot (on basis it will handle CD-R/RW and DVDs) or put it in the slot the old DVD player occupies?

Is there a benefit in having a dedicated CD writer? If so I would probably replace the old one with one of the newer faster models which (according to PC Advisors Top 10) only cost ~£20.

Thanks

Though not an expert I would install it in the CD Writer bay , keeping the old DVD player.( Enabling you to make back ups from both DVD's and CD's)and most DVD writers will write to CD faster than your old one.
