just upgraded from WinXP to XP Pro with upgrade disk.
PC was working fine before, but on startup after
new installation I cannot get the mouse to activate, and I cannot see backup drives in "my Computer"
Any advice please.

What type of mouse? PS2 / USB? HAve you loaded drivers?

Can you see the drives in Disk management?
My Computer - right click - manage - storage - disk management.

hello Fruit Bat /\0/\,
I had a usb mouse, swapped it for PS2, and I now have the mouse working,
On checking I I think it is a USB problem because the drive that is missing is a USB external drive, the power is to it but it is not showing.

Install SP2

madboy33©®, I assumed that it would be the same SP2 version as I had for XP HE, so I have installed it already, it is 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2600?

right click my computer and select properties and it will tell you if SP2 installed

Are there any SATA drivers that need installing for your hard drive, and have you applied ALL the windows updates up to this months? Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click custom as opposed to express, this will show additional hardware and software updates for your pc, some of which can be drivers.

Thanks everyone, I don't know what I have done here but things are back to normal.
All I didwas a chkdsk and an attempt at sfc /scannow which failed a little way in, but that is another topic.
I am now back to normal with this.
and I did check for updates thanks.
