Upgrade Problem

Tried to upgrade a pals PC by taking his HD with XP and shoving it in a spare PC with better Mbd, Ram and other facilities. Problem is that it only boots halway into Win XP and then keeps rebooting. Tried Safe Mode and half the files load and then it reboots again. Any ideas?

What you've done is unlikely to work even in the most carefully orchestrated situations. You need to do at least a repair install of XP, and then install the drivers for the new motherboard, but you might have to do a clean install. If it's an oem vesrsion of XP it'll objecy and require re-activation.

don't attempt any of this if you plan to replace the HD into the original system

Thanks 100andthirty. Yes, should have realised the potential problem(s). Tried a Win repair but that raised some strange problems so finished up reformatting the drive and a clean installation of XP.
Thanks again.
