Upgrade hardware & keep original OS

Hi All....I have a pretty old PC (AMD K6 500MHz) which does everything I need it to but it does struggle with picture editing & video. I have been told I could simply replace the motherboard & processor for a a quicker version & keep my OS & HDD as is but is it really that simple?

Can I buy a motherboard bundle, take the old motherboard out, put the new one in & switch on & enjoy a faster machine?

Any advise greatfully received...

You might have problems with the old mobo drivers clashing with the new hardware. It can work but i wouldn't advise it.

yes it can be done but make sure you remove any drivers for components that are going to be changed
and back up anything you need to keep in case anything goes pear shaped

more preferable if you have the disks is back up anything you want to keep and go for a clean install
this will reduce the chance of conflict
