I built my pc a while ago now and i was looking for some upgrades (not wanting to spend over £250). I have decided to get either the amd fx-8350 black edition or the gtx 770 (and i know amd is not great for gaming but i dont want to change modo just for a intel processor). my specs of my pc are as follows.* CPU AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Motherboard Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P ATX AM3+ Memory Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Video Card Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB DirectCU II Power Supply EVGA 500W ATX12V / EPS12V *only including relevant parts

I suspect the CPU upgrade will make little difference to gaming on it's own. On the other hand, if you go for the GPU upgrade you need to bear in mind that Nvidia recommend a minimum 600W power supply to use a GTX770.

MechKB2: what do you think an SSD would for gaming? I imagine I'm missing something...

MechKB 2, having learnt lessons the hard way, with poor PSUs in the past, I over-specify as a matter of course.

Based on my own experience, I fully agree with regard to the impact on games of using SSDs.

MechKB2: thanks. I hadn't thought of that.

Thank you for all the replies and for making me aware i will need a higher watt powersupply if i do get a better graphics card but if i do get a better graphics card will my amd fx 6300 be a bottleneck for something like a gtx 770

thanks what would you recommend getting as i already have a full razer/logitech setup (gamepad, keyboard, headset, mouse and 2 monitors). Also at the moment i am spray painting my case and fitting lights to it.

Are their any other hardware internals that could increase gaming performance/fps

Answer

If you want to see a meaningful performance boost in games, I would suggest you save some more money and upgrade the CPU and GPU at the same time.

Thank you MechKB 2 and Mr Mistoffelees i will buy an SSD now and then save up for a while to upgrade both CPU and GPU
