Upgrade Advice

I want to upgrade my PC a bit. Could someone recommend a mobo/cpu bundle and anything else I may need.

Current Spec:-

2.40 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

ASUSTeK Computer INC. A8N-E 2.XX
Bus Clock: 220 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD ASUS A8N-E ACPI BIOS Revision 1011-004 01/20/2006

RADEON X300/X550 Series [Display adapter]
RADEON X300/X550 Series Secondary [Display adapter]

2 x 160Gb Hard drives

1GB ddr ram

I have heard that Intel is the way to go now rather than AMD.

Any input gratefully received.

The question is, what are you going to do with it, games, photo/video-editing, etc. This will help.

From the spec'a good clout of memory will help, say minimum of 2gb along with a single hard drive of around 250gb. This will give it a kick withour spending a fortune...

I do a lot of downloading and encoding but no gaming.

actually i think that AMD is just as good as intel, if not cheaper.
intel is only as big beacuse of its advertising, unlike AMD.

For a while AMD had the lead on 64bit chips and their X2 had it over the dual core pentium D's.

Intel tipped the scale back in their favour with Core2.

Having said that AMD is cheaper which is why you are getting alot of PCWorld computers using X2 and phenom chips.

So can someone recommend a bundle?
