Upgrade advice

  SABRE 09:17 18 Apr 2005

I have a PC running a 1ghz Pentium, XP and 256 ram. I want to upgrade to somewhere in the region of 2.6ghz-3ghx with 512ram. Can anyone suggest processor/motherboard/ram combinations that would give best value in this region? I am an AMD favourer.

Buy an AMD motherboard bundle from Novatech.

You will probably need a new graphics card as well

Thanks 961. Think I'll go for this: Motherboard Bundle Sempron 2600 Barton 512MB 400 DDR (£124). Only concern is I've never heard of Foxconn mboards.

That bundle would do fine

Foxconn is a large manufacturer in Taiwan.

Savastore have similar bundles with MSI mobos at around same price,(but get 512 memory) or you could always buy individual components

Consider existing power supply. If you are going to install much in the way of extra optical drives etc you may need bigger than existing, particularly if you are replacing graphics card
