Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help me? I have just ordered a DKU-2 data cable for my nokia phone so that i can synchronise my phone and my pc and transfer images and mp3's. Much to my annoyance when i plugged it in and tried to install the drivers for the cable from nokia pc suite, the drivers need windows 2000 service pack 3 to run! Despite it saying on the cable that it works with windows 98, me, 2000 and xp! no mention of service pack!

I have no idea what a service pack is but i typed in service pack 3 windows 2000 and have managed to download it, it took 2 hours to install then instantly restarted my computer with no warning, and i tried again to install the cable thinking it would now work, but it said the same thing, needs windows service pack 3 to install!! I have just downloaded it AND installed it!! And it is still here on my computer, i have put it in a seperate file on the desktop, i clicked on it again and it just went to start the installaion process again!!

Does anyone have any idea what im doing wrong or what im supposed to do or even what a service pack is?! lol

Thanks!!

Laura

To be honest, if you don't know what a Service Pack is I don't think you should be using PCs just yet.

A Service Pack is Microsoft software which updates your OS with all the latest security and critical patches released by Microsoft to make your PC more secure against outside 'hostile attacks' and to make your OS/PC run more smoothly.

If your data cable will still not work correctly, I suggest that you return it from whence you bought it and have a chat with the salesman!

Hi, I am not that technically aware, but I believe a Service Pack is simply a bunch of Updates (mainly of the Security variety) all put together into one download.

Does your Nokia have InfraRed, if so I would suggest getting a InfraRed dongle for your pc, they are not expensive and simply fit into a usb port. These do work with Nokia PC Suite, I use one with my Nokia8910.

Cheers.

I have ahad a pc for 13 years so I think its a little late for that comment. I am perfectly capable with both macs and pc's and have been for many years, I just don't happen to know what a service pack is!
I have found service pack 3 and installed it from the microsoft website but it isn't working!

It will be a little hard for me to return the cable and have a little chat with the salesman as the cable is from hong kong!

I know it is not the cable as it is recognising the new hardware on my computer when it is plugged in, it just wont install the driver without windows 2000 sp3!

Yeah my phone does have infra red and blue tooth, I know you can also byt little blue tooth usb adapters for your computer for approx 20 pounds but its just annoying as I have this cable now and i cant use it!! :(

Don't worry.

I suspect that Jackcoms needs specialist help with his problem. Brain not computers.

You`ll never make it in the Diplomatic Corp. I really can`t see you sauntering down Whitehall swinging an umbrella, no mate, stay as you are, a normal decent law abiding lad who enjoys himself on this forum.

so can anyone help??

  Jackcoms 16:06 15 Apr 2005

In spite of the 'amusing' comments from VoG™ (one of his specialities I believe), I stick with my original suggestion.

If you now have SP3 and the cable doesn't recognise that fact, the problem seems to lie with the cable.

Can you bite the bullet and ditch the cable and shop around for a product which does work?

Try PC World (yes, I know all about them!). But at least you can pop back there if a replacement doesn't do the job.
