Updating Ram

Currently I have two Ram chips (both 256 PC277)and three ram slots on my motherboard. I have decided to buy a 512 chip in addition.

Should I put the new chip in the vacant slot (3) or move the others along and put the 512 chip in slot 1? Or does it not make any difference?

Many thanks

have you checked that you motherboard can take the extra ram?

If it can, I would move the others along and put the new one in slot 1.

Some people suggest putting higher ram in the higher number slots. Personally I am with ed-O on this one. Lower slot number (1) higher ram MB, = (1)512+ (2)256+ (3)256

The Crucial website scan my system click here will normally tell you what your computer can take.

Thanks very much for your posts.

The motherboard is fine with the extra ram. I will put the new chip in the ram slot 1.

Many thanks
