Updates will not install

  bumpkin 17:30 26 Feb 2009

Hi everyone,
every time I shut down my PC I get the message
"Updates are installing" there are 9 of them and it takes a while before auto shutdown.

This happens every time I turn off the PC.

When I look in add/remove programs these updates are not there.

If I go to Microsoft site to download them then I can but all fail to install.

Can anyone help on this please.

Try going to Microsoft update site and try and download them one at a time.Just in case it is only 1 that is causing the problem.

I found this fix on the Net...

Its a stuck update, perform the following...

Start -> Control Panel > Administritive Tools -> Services

Right click the "Automatic Updates" service and click stop

navigate to C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution\ (note its a hidden folder)

Delete all contents

Start the above service again. The SoftwareDistribution folder will auto-repopulate and re-cataloge what updates are required.

If you do decide to try it, I would make a system restore point first, just in case.
