I had trouble installing the updates needed after repairing XP.But after a Google search,found this solution which fixed the problem.click hereThought I was looking at a total reinstall,which would have been a pain.Just thought I'd share the info.

Thanks for sharing the info - it has just saved me from (contemplated) disposal of an old machine where this has been bugging me. It's frequently so difficult to find the relevant technical help on the microsoft site.
I agree.This problem had me beat for a while and as you say the Microsoft site isn't the easiest site to find the info you need.
