unwanted Word menu

I have Windows XP. Lately I find that when I want to open a new page a menu appears on the right hand side of the screen. It gives the choice of opening a document, a new page or a new page from existing document. This never used to appear, and I don't know why it has suddenly started to appear, but I find it very annoying. I want to be able to click the "new page" icon and have the page open up without this menu appearing. Any idea how I can get rid of it?

Oops, got confused with Office XP.

I might be way off beam here as I never use it but could this be something to do with the Office Quicklaunch Toolbar? Type that into Office Help and see if the results chime with what's occurring.

What version of Word are you using?

If it is Word 2002 (XP) then this applies click here

And the hammer is ready...

Dunno how folk afford these up to date programs!

Have these new doc panes replaced the 2000 version toolbar then?

It is generally useful but some aspects of it are awful. Take Mail Merge. In our old world a sort of Wizard might appear. Now, in Word 2002, half the screen pops up with 50% irrelevant questions. It can be a pain (pun intended)!
