Unwanted Programmes/Applications

I have been given a laptop with W.XP Home however, despite the doners attempts to remove clutter I find that there are many applications etc that I do not want. What is the easiest way to identify and then remove programmes/applications from the machine please

Go to the Add/Remove Programs section of the Control Panel and have a look down the list of currently installed programs (and updates, if you've checked the box at the top). Remove any you know you don't need. If you're not sure what one is, open the program and see!
