Unwanted icon in Taskbar

I've just had a virus removed by an engineer, everything seems to be back to normal, apart from one small difference. When I connect my Tiscali broadband, a small icon appears in the taskbar, denoting that it's on. Now I have that, plus another identical icon next to it with a red cross on it, this one states..."Local area connection a network cable is unplugged". Nothing seems amiss- my broadband which is via a usb modem is up and running. Can anyone tell me how to remove the second icon? Right clicking it doesn't bring up a delete option.

Also try this, Go to network connections in the control panel, right click the connection and choose properties. Then uncheck the box that says Notify me when I have limited or no connectivity.

The extra one with the red cross is for the ethernet cable.
It is unplugged because you are not using an ethernet cable to your modem.
You are using USB cable.
Therefore the ethernet cable IS unplugged. (local area connection)

Thanks rawprawn and lotvic...disabled it. Apologies for late reply, didn't get the email informing me there was a response.
