I have an Outlook Express Mail box which has not been accessed for some time and is full of spam. Is there a quick and easy way to delete all of the mails within. If I highlight them and then delete it takes an age and sometimes I get a lock out and the mails re appear.
Oscar, I use outlook Express for most of my personal mail. For logging into forums, or freedownload sites, even software registrations, etc, I use my webmail address. Guess what? I get the most spam or junk mail in my web hotmail and yahoo accounts. I hardly ever see spam in my OE account, but my ISP is BT. Of course I also have a basic and elementary filters on all my accounts, so most of my spam go into my Spam or Bulk Mail folders where they can be easily deleted, and it does not count as your mail for the purposes of mail limits for your account. I also use Mailwasher as an added convenience. Mailwasher can be trained to detect mail you have listed as spam the first time into memory. I am not sure if Mailwasher works with Hotmail?
Set out your filters. Quite simple.Treat any mail not addressed to me as spam. Allow all mail that is in my address book. Block any mail with topics as Loans, Viagra, Weight, etc as spam, and 98% of your mail will be screened.
I don't know what your e-mail addy is, but if it is somthing along the line of
FirstName.Sirname @ Service provider . co . uk
then you are making is easy for the spammer to guess your addy. My email addys are somewhat obscure. I never get spam.
After all, how hard can it be to write a prog that includes a big list of first names, a big list of sirnames, and then to sent the spam to every possibel combination of first name.sir name @ all email providers?
