Unwanted AVG6DB_F.DAT & AVG6DB_D.DAT files

I use AVG6(Free thus no support) under XP Professional. After several months perfect use I now periodically - every few days- find the above two files on my root C Drive. they are each 4GB in size, awkard as I only have a 12GB Drive Deleting them does not seem to affect the system.
I can see no pattern to this and I have tried disabling auto update and a complete download and reinstall of AVG6 after a registry cleanout but still they come back.
Any ideas as to how I can control this would be appreciated - my grey matter has run out.

One is created every time you run a virus scan.

Here are a few, small AVG files you can delete :-
All the files with an extension of AVG from C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\Log and all the files from C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\Update.
