Unusual file called 'Container'

  Chris the Ancient 19:14 10 Jun 2004

I found a large file on my system recently called Container. No extension to help. Its large to the extent of 20+ Meg!

I've looked at it with various programs - but nothing makes any sense of it.

As I might have got it with playing with a couple of security programs (long since deleted) I haven't worried to much about it. I can't imagine that I tried to do anything security-wise that was that sort of size! Anyway, I just moved it on to my Data Back-Up drive and ignored it.

Nothing has asked for it for 2-3 weeks so I suspect it is not really needed.

But, has anyone else had a 20 Meg file called container hanging around and knew where it came from. I'm just curious!

Nothing like that here Chris.

The only "container" files I have are .class files and a few KB in size.

Thanks for checking.

Good 'un, ain't it?

Biggest container on my hard drives is 77k and is associated with Shockwave (swf suffix).

Personally I'd bin it but I've spent many a midnight hour putting my system back together having 'binned' something.

So you're probably wise.

The lack of extension makes it so hard to work out.

Now, if it had that nice three letter extension, life would be so much easier. Sigh!

only thing I have found is connected to java 2 platform

Is your file that sort of size?

Right clicking on it and selecting properties might give more info on it.

  stalion 20:02 10 Jun 2004

no I have no file I searched on the internet and that was the only thing I could find that is possibly connected

Properties says...

Type of file: File

Description: Container

Helpful, ain't it?

Thanks for trying. Now there's just more than me puzzled .
