Keep getting a message regarding new hard ware asking me to insert CD Rom - thing is I haven't installed any new hard ware!

Also, recently an AOL dialer message has started to appear - AOL is my ISP but never used to get this message.

I've been into device manager and noticed that two items were flagged by a yellow mark. I uninstalled both items but they return when I re-start my pc.

Also, my monitor screen has started to flicker and now my pc has stated to crash without warning.

Run a full system scan with your antivirus software. After the antivirus scan again using Spybot S&D click here for a free download.

If you have a disk with your motherboard drivers, update those yellow exclamation mark items in Device Manager with the disk inserted.

Ran anti-virus and spy-bot - messages still appear when PC is booted up.

Regarding device manager: there is a yellow question mark next to 'Other Devices' followed by two items listed as: 'Multimedia Audio Controller' and 'PCI Modem'.

I do have a pci modem installed but have deactivated it because I'm using broadband but have no idea what the Multimedia Audio Controller is.

Try updating/reinstalling the drivers for each item as I mentioned above.

Greengage, as I previously stated, I don't even know what the Multimedia Audio Controller is! My sound card is an M-Audio 2496 and doesn't have a Multimedia Audio Controller.
