Unknown object in system tray

  Spanish Johnny 20:07 08 Sep 2006

I may have had a trojan on my pc recently which I'm pretty sure I removed, but now there's a flashing icon in my system tray, it's a ? followed by a stop sign. when clicked it opens my browser to a web site for anti spyware programs.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this, i have run a virus scan and Spybot s&d and nothing comes up.
I use XP Home.

Try and roll back using system restore, make sure you back up any recent data.

Alternately, turn off system restore and run spybot again, and the anti virus.

Also run LAVA Soft Ad-aware.

Post back if this does not work...

It's a Add-Aware program. Don’t think it's malicious. But it needs removing

Try right clicking it to see what choices you have on the menue.

to STREETWORK, cannot roll back, had to turn off system restore when i ran the removal tool for the trojan, none of the programs have found anymore malicious files

Go to Run Type MSCONFIG press enter go to startup Tab and remove the tick for the program

to Rdave, right clicking does nothing, there's just a baloon pops up from it every so often saying "critical system error download antimalware software to remove etc

Spanish Johnny,

what program is it trying to send you to.? Or, what is the site's url.? n.b. if you post the url address, post only what is after the www. part, or it will turn into a Click Here.

  Spanish Johnny 20:36 08 Sep 2006

woodchip, I don't know the name of the program so I can't remove the tick
