Uninstalling IE 5.0 in win2k

Hi All

Sorry posted in wrong forum.

I wish to uninstall IE 5.0 as i am having problems with IE 5 / 6.

I've been on the microsft site which mentions this should be in the add/remove programs - nowhere to be seen.

Is there any way this can be done, i will no IE on my machine and will install IE 6.0 when IE5.0 is removed.

I thought perhaps the win2k cd might be useful for this.

Any help gratefully received.

You can't completely delete IE from add/remove. It only reverts back to basic version (v5). Try this: unregister the Comcat.dll file by using the Regsvr32.exe utility with the /u switch as in the following example: (use cmd for command prompt)
regsvr32 /u C:\winnt\system32\comcat.dll

and rename the Comcat.dll file in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder.

After you unregister the Comcat.dll file, reinstall Internet Explorer.

For information about how to rename a file, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type renaming, and then double-click the "Renaming files" topic.

If you remove Internet Explorer before you reinstall it, be sure to rename the Comcat.dll file after removing Internet Explorer.

BTW it might be best to run sfc first to see if it can be fixed: RUN/ type sfc /scannow (note space) and put in w2k disc.
