Uninstalled Multimedia audio controller

Hi, been having soundcard troubles and now finally at least it's working... to an extent.

The problem is that in making it work I uninstalled multimedia audio controller and I think I need it back to make my soundcard work with my surround sound. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling and rebooting etc but no good. The yellow questionmark under device manager keeps coming and hardware cannot be installed.

Details of my system are:

try uninstalling in safemode, also whilst in device manager in safe mode,
click on view across the top and show hidden devices
then have a check for any further exclamation marks
