Is it possible to uninstall windows defender as it doesn't show in programmes/features in control panel or start menu.

Thanks for repyling.
Already took it out of the start menu.
Have ccleaner so will try to uninstall with that.

Are you using Vista?

If so be careful about removing elements of Defender because I think they are part of the Vista OS, not a free standing program, which is why it's not in add/remove.

Why not just disable it?

As anskyber says if you are using Vista leave well alone it is part of the OS.

Can't be removed, but can be easily disabled as per click here

Already had it disabled but thought as not using it i may as well uninstall.
Thanks for all advice.Think i will settle for leaving it disabled.

have antivirus/antimalware don't need defender

but defender 'will not initialise' anyway and it keeps on popping up this 'x' message every time i start up.

typed in msconfig (vista) and unchecked start up for defender - restarted - there's the defender pop-up again: aaaaaaaagh!!!

can someone please help me get rid of/disable this programme please?

If you want help with your problem you should start a thread - not a lot of good using an 18 month old thread which has been resolved.

This thread is now locked and can not be replied to.
