Uninstall Norton utilities 2001 in XP. How?

  PhiltheFragger 23:17 06 Apr 2003

An idiot friend recently upgraded from win98se to XP. He did not uninstall Norton Utilities 2001 before doing so and now he has got a copy of Utilities 2002 which he wants to install instead. The problem is it detects a previous version and wont run. I have uninstalled using add/remove and by using "find" to track down any Symantec or norton files which are then deleted.

but still no go, anything else I can do before I reformat.

Cheers Chaps

Hi PhiltheFragger, Norton have an uninstaller you can download. It is designed for situations like this. It's a bit of a pig to find, but I shall check some of my old posts for a link and post back if you have not found it before me.

Do a search for all Norton & Symantec files on his PC including 'hidden' files & delete them. Do the same search in the registry (you will find lots) and delete them. This advice assumes he has no other Norton products on the system.
