I have Advanced uninstaller on my XP machine but when I use to get rid of programmes it leaves bit in the programme list am I doing something wrong?

no your not doing anything wrong.

some,if not most programs,leave behind a folder in program files and maybe a shortcut or two aswell in start/all programs.these you just delete manually if your sure the program itself has been uninstalled.

if you want to get rid of everything completely after uninstalling a program then as above delete any leftover folders,shortcuts etc manually and then run a reg cleaner to get rid of the reg entries for said program click here

ps.i have tried advanced uninstaller myself some time ago and it doesnt really offer anything over windows add/remove progs in my opinion.you still have to clean up after it.
