Hi,
I'm a bit of a computer thicky.
My laptop boots astonishingly slowly now............as in about 5 minutes. I have used defrag & regularly use Norton clean sweep, and also use registry mechanic. It has few other programmes on it.

I suspect it is because, it came loaded with Win 98, I put Me on it and then XP...

Sorry, told you I was an idiot pushed the wrong buttons again.

Is this why my laptop is so slow.... and what can I do about it?

I suspect I need to remove the old OS but could do with advice about wether this is the right thing to do AND how to do it.

Cheers
Peter

when you put XP on did you carry out a clean install or install "over the top" of 98 or ME

P.S. I would tick the other threads as resolved

What's your processor and RAM?

(Please tick as resolved all the other threads you just posted and stick to this one.)

Right click My Computer and select Properties. This will tell you how much RAM you have. Your C partition is full which will cause slow downs and other problems.

64 MB of RAM

In spite of what Microsoft say, 64M is not enough for XP. 128M is the minimum for reliable operation, although you can get away with 98M.

Hmm.
So you would recommend ????
and how?????

  wee eddie 15:56 27 Feb 2005

or install more RAM

I did warn you I was thick..... How do I get more RAM.......... or how do I go back to the 98 version?
