Unable to Uninstall Windows 98SE

Help - I have been given a PC which someone has seriously mucked about with, deleting many esential files. I wish to re-intsall Windows 98 and have my start up floppy disc, W98 CD and key etc, but when I try to uninstall the current w98 os it tells me that it cannot do it as filles are missing. I've tried formatting the hard drive but it won't let me because it says windows requires files here to run! I've re-installed windows as a "new instal" once, but it seems to have installed a second version, filling the hard drive!.

I'dreally appreciate soem advice.

Did you try to fomat in dos ? as you wont be able to format through windows cos it is in use,try starting in ms-dos mode from the start/shutdown option then at the prompt type format:c if c is the letter of your hard drive then select yes at the prompt and it should do the trick.
