I am running windows 98 SE using wanadoo as my isp
I am able to receive e-mails but when i try to send an e-mail the following error message appears

The connection to the server has failed
Account: pop.wanadoo.co.uk
Server: smtp.wanadoo.co.uk
Protocol smtp, port 25, secure(SSL) No, socket
error 10060, error number 0x800CCCOE

Can anyone help please

You will need to check the properties of the account.

if you are using Outlook Express as your mail client then go to Tools/Accounts/highlight the account then select Properties then check the settings on the General tab and the Server tab. It may be that your password is incorrect.

For web based, check the settings in your account.

Have you had your acount very long? ie since wannado was freeserve.

You might need pop.freeserve.co.uk and smtp.ffreeserve.co.uk

  MAJ 14:13 14 Jun 2004

Go into Outlook Express (if that's your email client) to Tools > Accounts > Mail tab, select your Wanadoo account and click on the Properties button on the right, click on the Connection tab and untick the option "Always connect to this account using". Click Apply and OK to exit. Try sending an email again to see if that has cured the problem, Nightmanager.

How do i change the pop and smtp from wanadoo to freeserve as this is the only thing that i can now try. I have tried MAJ's suggestion without success and the password seems OK

any time i had a 'no socket error' it was my isp`s fault not mine. ie/ there was maintenance being carried out and the email server was down.

to check your settings anyway, as above its:

open outlook express and click 'tools/accounts' then click the 'mail' tab and highlight 'your mail account' and click 'properties/servers'

in the incoming (pop) type 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk'

in outgoing (smtp) type 'smtp.wanadoo.co.uk'

apply and ok.
