Somehow the Rename facility in Explorer has "disappeared". It no longer appears in the Right Click Menu and is greyed out from the File Menu. I cannot even Rename any new folders I create - they just display as New Folder 1, 2 etc. My computer has XP Home SP2. Help !

or - do a System Restore back to before this problem started.

Thank you for the responses. Neither worked unfortunately so it's back to the drawing board!

Is this a problem that has occurred since installing new software? If so it could be some kind of incompatibility. Try uninstalling the software and see if the problem resolves.

Hmm, try with your anti-virus turned off (go off-line first) especially if you are using Avast. Not that there is anything wrong with Avast, but it has been known to cause this. If it works with your anti-virus off, the problem will probably be cured even when you restart your anti-virus.
