Unable to open Word .docs attached to Outlook

  Trepan 11:26 16 Mar 2006

Now I just know that I have caused this as I was trying to import my old address book which I had copied into a word document and tried then to import this into Outlook - it didn't work so I revereted to entering all 150 afddresses manually. Following me messing about I have done somthing that refuses to allow Outlook to open up anything other than rich text files, problem is what on earth have I done? (methinks I have upset Outlook or Word settings, but try as I might I am unable to sort it)

Can someone help me please, if so you will make a 65yr old grumpy man happy

Create a System Restore point before you try this:

Click Start, Run and type CONTROL FOLDERS

In the Folder Options applet that opens, select the File Types tab

Scroll down and click on the following entry:

DOC (Microsoft Word Document)

Click Advanced

Click the New button

Type Open in the the Action: text box

In the Application used to perform action: field, type the following exactly:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE" "%1"

[That is for Office 2003; if you have Office XP it would be OFFICE10]

Untick the Use DDE box

Click OK, OK

Close the Folder Options dialog

Thanks for this, since posting the question events have overtaken me in that the computer crashed and I have had to re-instal XP and all the software - so at the moment I am treading very carefully and I hope to be able to transfer the Add book by creating a network for both computers to transfer this and other stuff.

If all goes well a happy bunny am I if not watch this space - thanks a lot for your suggestion.
