Unable to load software,Cab files not found

I run Windows XP edition 1 and each time I try to load genuine software it will stop halfway during the installation with the message "Can't find such and such file" which always ends in '.cab' Using windows search, the .cab file is always available on the Installation CD. Do I have a virus of is there a corruption in one of my Window files. Anyone had a similar problem or have any idea why the Windows installer can't find the .cab files?

Please list the files not found...

It could be referring to the operating system files and not the software being installed...

Does the message tell you where the installer is trying to find the cab file. It could well just be that it's looking in the wrong place.

The installation wizard gives error code 1311, and the message that the source file could not be found. It is looking in the right place,ie the correct CD drive and the file 'main.cab is in the correct location of the software installation disc.
