"Unable to download a suitable decompressor"

On friends PC running Windows 98, when he clicks on an .avi file taken by his new Canon digital camera Real Player starts up, searches the net then displays the above message. On clicking play, sound is heard but no video is displayed.

We looked in the microsoft database and eliminated all the possible causes but still it doesn't work. Anyone know what to do?

It works OK on my PC running XP

Try opening it with Windows Media Player. I run my Canon avi`s perfectly from this.

You can set WMP option to always play avi, (and many other), files.
