Unable to boot into desktop without Ctrl-Alt-Delet

My computer has started to refuse to boot into the desktop in the normal way. I switch on and the normal procedure occurs until the user names come up; when my name is clicked nothing happens. I then use Ctrl-Alt-Delete after which a Microsoft dialogue box appears; this offers to boot into windows and when I click OK it does indeed proceed and all seems normal from there on in. Can anyone help with this please.

Right-click on My Computer then left-click on the Advanced tab, and then on User Profiles>Settings you can then remove your present Profile and create a new profile.

Though I have never had to do this myself, I believe this should sort it for you.

Or - perhaps do a System Restore back to when it was all booting ok.
