unable to access bios

  lairey2 12:03 12 Nov 2009

I need to get into the bios to start from a disc (Trying to load Ubuntu), but despite pressing all the recommended keys on start up I cannot get beyond a screen that offers the choice of XP or Ubuntu, left over from a previous aborted attempt.
Is there any other way I can boot from my disc, and failing that, is there a download that I can use? So far, starting from a disc seems to be the only way to load this OS.

the key you need to press on boot up is the del key or f3 on dell latops .all so if you have a usb keybord sometimes they dont work as in the boot up process so if you have the old type of keybord with the purple connector use that then log into your bios ...if you dont have the old type try pluging the keybord into a diffrent usb slot

Thanks for your response, got called away to a flat tyre!
Wish everything was as simple to resolve.
All this gear is quite old, purple connector and so on. But will try your suggestions and any more that may come through.
Thanks anyway.

Thanks for the response.
I found the answer to my problem on Google.
I need to hold Ctrl, Alt and Esc together and then I can get in.
It seems that different motherboards have there own requirements.
