ultra dma - s.m.a.r.t. Do you need it?

When I start up it says it's capable but disabled. (title not accurate, but similar) Is this needed and if so how would I turn it on. Sorry I keep coming out with loads of questions but when solved I will help others, I promise :).

It's a utility for monitoring your hard drive and it can warn of impending failure. Personally I never bother with SMART as it uses resources and is not a foolproof warning system.

It can be a good idea to activate it at a later date when problems start to appear and you suspect the hard drive. Then it can provide a useful confirmation.

OK, I won't be needing it then, thanks. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something essential and was causing my problems. Thats that resolved :)
