UAC off,but red shield is annoying

  skidzy 23:20 09 Sep 2007

Ok,i often work with UAC turned off but i just cannot remove the red shield from the system tray and its notifications.

Ive looked around MS and Google and seems to be a bit of an issue.

Now we all know its one of Vista main security features that some like, however,im confident enough to work on my machine (only user) with UAC disabled.

As Google will tell you,UAC can be a real pain, but it is there for a reason..but not for me.

So how do you remove the Red Shield from the system tray ?

I know it should be in the Vista forum, but again we all know more response is gained from here in the helproom.

All advice appreciated as usual.

Thankyou in advance

This is useful for the ordinary jobs that Vista turns into a clicking-marathon, but some access is still restricted from what I've found.

Well the only way i can find to remove the shield temporarily,is to right click the shield and exit. This still lets me work 75% of the time without prompts...but like most thing...not 100%

This will do for now until i find another way.

Thanks again Brundle.

extract from a blog, sorry dont use vista,so cant validate if this works or not.

go to windows security center from your control panel and click on the left where it says "Change the way security center alerts me" you then have the choice between:
Yes, notify me and display the icon
Don't notify me, but display the icon
Don't notify me and don't display the icon.
Just click the last option and no more annoying warning in your task bar

someone also inferred to make the change whilst uac is turned on,so when turning off the shield would not appear.
