We are about to get a new HD TV, but we want to run a laptop through it. What is the preferred requirement to enable film and tv to be streamed into the screen from your laptop. I have been told that it is possible if you laptop is powerfull enough, but how much power id enough?? I currently have an HP laptop with with a 160gb external hardrive, can a laptop be upgraded or should I just chuck it in for an AppleMac? Is this something PC World type of place will assist with or is it best to seek other advise.

What output ports do you have on the laptop?

If you have a VGA port then it will connect direct to a TV as most HD TVs have a PC input port (VGA) all you will need is a VGA cable click here

Your laptop is unlikely to have a DVI out or HDMI out.

power as nothing to do with it. You need to connect you VGA to the HDMI if its not got a VGA on the TV. If you want sound you will also need a Audio Cable to connect the line out mic socket to sound in on the TV This would be a small Stereo to Brana Plug for sound at this price one of these click here
