Please be a little more specific. Do you want to record on a machine connected to your TV? Will the source be Sky, Freeview or Freesat?

If you want to record television programmes and retain the files on your computer, all that is required is a Freeview PCI TV card or USB stick and the software supplied.

The software supplied is normally of the PVR type and has been for several years.

But you do need to ensure that the card or USB stick has a decent TV signal.

In my case I use ShowShifter in conjunction with a six-year-old Twinhan Freeview TV card and its BDA drivers - an hour's recording is approximately 1.65GB.

Unfortunately ShowShifter is now defunct, but the software supplied should be sufficient.

I have a Topfield 5800 Freeview recorder with 250gb bought 3 years ago.

I can transfer recorded files (.rec) to my pc, then edit and convert using VideoRedo to mpeg. I then convert to divx files for keeping and watching on DVD.
