Try Speed up Vista or downgrade to WXP ?

  immer 09:00 14 Jan 2009

I got a new laptop with Vista home pre installed.Have made backups of it. It is so slow I'm thinking of downgrade to WXP. Should I try tame the thing & if so how, or just kill the blighter off ! It seems ages to boot up, much worse than XP !

How much ram have you?

2 gig & 160gig hard drive.

i think 2 gig may not be enough.

Realistically, 2GB of RAM should be okay for Vista, it certainly should be enough to run a new laptop without boot speed problems. What did you install on it? What processor is it using?

2gigs is fine.

I am one of the few people who prefer Vista.

I only use 1.5G No problem.

Beware if you do downgrade, it may not work with XP, if it's built for Vista

Make sure you've got the right drivers etc.

All the best

Maybe try this for getting rid of unwanted programs on a new computer. As far as I know its still here They have far to many programs running at start up.Maybe get some advice on which ones to untick from msconfig.Anti-Virus.make sure it is not set to run a scan at start up.Set it to run at a certain time.Or run it manually. What security programs are you using including your Firewall.
