My friend recently moved to a new house and is having trouble reconnecting to the internet. He is with AOL on a BT phone line using a filter and an ASDL modem. The set up at the new house is exactly the same as the old property, one master phone socket with no extensions. The computer recognises the modem through the USB link but when trying to connect to the internet he gets 2 error messages "phone line is engaged" and "no link to modem". We have tried new filters just in case the original was faulty but still no joy. Could the modem be faulty or are we missing something, any ideas?
Have you informed BT that there is a new owner? AND has your friend transferred the account? (For example: ADSL always has a BT line set up for BB but there are different ISP`s - Pipex, PlusNet, Tesco, BT itself etc etc)
